Membership Criteria: Processors or Traders, defined as primarily purchasers of raw tuna for processing or purchasers of raw tuna or finished tuna products for resale.
Application Fee (non-refundable): $50,000
Application Process:
· Complete application (attached) and submit application fee
· In person review of ISSA By-Laws, antitrust policy, WWF MOU and existing ISSF Conservation Resolutions with a member of ISSA Membership Committee
· Successful completion of ISSF traceability audit to ensure applicant’s ability to comply with ISSF traceability requirements
· It is incumbent upon the applicant to identify any current inability to comply with ISSF conservation measures as this inability will be considered by the Board in evaluation of the application
ISSA Members must:
· Pay dues per the annual schedule (on application)
· Membership starting mid-year will be pro-rated
· Abide by ISSA By-Laws
· Comply with the terms of the WWF MOU
· Abide by terms of antitrust compliance policy
In summary, ISSA By-Laws include the following provisions:
Annual membership meetings for purpose of electing ISSA Board Members (every two years), presentation of outcome from ISSF Scientific Advisory Committee Meetings, presentation of progress against ISSF strategic plan and other business.
ISSA Board Composition:
- Maximum of 14 seats
- Requires CEO level or Senior Management participation
- Before election to board, must be member for at least one year
- Regional representation (although representation is regional, Board Members are encouraged to think globally about the issues up for consideration)
§ 5 Americas: 3 from companies with tuna revenue in excess of $300 million; 2 from companies with tuna revenue below $300 million
§ 5 EU / Africa: 3 from companies with tuna revenue in excess of $300 million; 2 from companies with tuna revenue below $300 million
§ 4 Asia / Oceania: 2 from companies with tuna revenue in excess of $300 million; 2 from companies with tuna revenue below $300 million
For Cause Termination of Membership, which includes failure to adhere to sustainability standards of ISSF
Disciplinary Committee process
If membership is terminated for cause, may not reapply for membership for 2 years
Timing : Due to meeting and audit requirements membership applications will be processed in the order that the completed application and fee are received by ISSA. Membership is effective upon receipt of annual dues, as invoiced by ISSA, upon process completion.
